Search Results

Results of your search will be displayed here.

Note (to previous visitors):

Some of the sites in the menus to the right have been rearranged. None have been removed. Secondly, we've added some new ones.
No, I can't eliminate Google's "sponsored links" AND I have no control over what they advertise (offensive or not.) Welcome to the new "in your face" world. Try the "Gross-out filter" selection if it's too objectionable.

What is this?

This search uses the Google search facility.

It allows you to more easily use some of Google's advanced functions to perform a search at specific site, and specifically we provide you some of the sites we have found useful for music questions to facilitate that. However, the ability to restrict is limited to a "domain" - that part of the link address up to the the first single "/" like "http://redhotjazz.com" or http://geocities.com". We can't restrict it any deeper.

Enter your search parameters in the fields in the form to the left. Type in the link address of the site you wish to search in the filed labelled "Domain or Site". (only the domain part, as described in the paragraph above.) OR you can use our menu at the bottom of the form, to choose one of our favorite sitesby name or description. It will fill the actual domain link addres into the form for you. Then select the "Google Search" button. Changing any of the search fields and hitting the "enter" key will also launch a new search. Selecting a new site will not, you'll have to "punch the button" again.

Hints

Some initial hints:

If you know the song you are looking for, or a correct composer name, enter it into the "Exactly:" field to the left with NO quotes.
If less sure of the title put the words you remember into the "all of" or "any of" fileds instead. Also, use "all of" or "any of" along WITH the title in "Exactly" to further restrict your search.

In some of the sites listed, Google can't drill down to the specific site (e.g., user sites on Geocities, or yahoo etc.) so once you find something on those sites that suits you, look at the link address in your browser and see if there is some distinct "folder" between the "/" marks
e.g.., 'midifiles' or 'jazz', or 'usr/mcgillicuddy'
This may not work, but it's worth a try. --- In the future, add those letter sequences (WITHOUT the slashes) into the "all of" part of the search parameters to try to restrict the search further. Similar comments concerning some of the university library sites as their jazz or ragtime sections are not searched exclusively. Google does not provide the ability to use a complete path the library subsection.

But at least you are not searching the whole web.

We are considering the possiblity, that in the future this page may try to link directly to the search form on those sites that have them and make the search even more powerful. (Example, the searches in university libraries frequently allow you to look up songs by title, or composer. But each one is a bit different. We are researching how to mold these into a single search form like the one here on the left -- but life is short...
